Winter 2022 - Industry Spotlight
Colorado Burial Preserve is the state’s first dedicated green cemetery!
NATURAL BURIAL
Burying our dead is a simple act as old as human culture. A suitable place is chosen, the earth is removed, and a body is laid to rest. Many of us take comfort in the idea of our remains returning to the earth and rejoining the cycles of nature one day. Today, more and more eco-conscious Coloradans are considering this natural option as a meaningful way to give something back to the earth.
- Colorado’s first conservation cemetery is in Florence (1 hour south of Colorado Springs)
- A peaceful setting with mountain views and diverse prairie-pinyon ecology
- Each grave protects and restores native prairie habitat
- Option to use shroud or biodegradable casket (embalming not permitted)
- We also welcome ground burial of cremated remains
- Green Burial Council certified Natural Burial Grounds
- Hiking trails and outdoor service chapel under development now
- Family is invited to participate in all stages of the burial process
- Options for headstones including local natural boulder (VA markers welcomed)
- Six burial gardens offer a variety of views, privacy and natural beauty
- Family plots accommodate both green burial and cremation side-by-side
